Prof. Dr N. D. Patil

Life

Narayan Dyandeo Patil alias Prof. Dr. N. D. Patil is a rational face of Maharashtra. He was born on July 15, 1929 in Dhavali a small village in Valava Taluka, District Sangli (Maharashtra). From an early age, he was very intelligent, bold and smart. After passing the matriculation examination, he joined Kolhapur at Rajaram College. Shetkari Kamgar Paksha, a political organization that fights for justice and rights of farmers and labours was formed on 3rd August 1947. This party was marvelous combination of ideas of Karl Marx and Mahatma Phule. Loaded with idealism, Dr. Patil determined to carry out the work of exploitation free and equitable social construction. He joined the party in 1948. While working in this political organization, he studied academic and social issues intimately. With a lot of heart, he fought for protection of the interest of the "have nots" group in the community.

He received M.A. degree in Economics from Willingdon College, Sangli. He also completed LL.B from the Pune University. He worked as a professor at Chhatrapati Shivaji College, Satara. He was also the Chief and Rector of the ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’. In 1960, he worked as principal at K.B.P College, Islampur. While working at Shivaji University, he has served as a member of various committees like First Advisory Committee. He was a member of Senate. He is also former Dean of sociology Department, Shivaji University Kolhapur. From 1959, he is the member of managing council of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha Satara. He also worked as Chairman of the Sanstha during the years from 1990 to 2008. He was a member of the Maharashtra legislative council for eighteen years. He has also served as the secretary general of Shetkari Kamgar Paksha. He also worked as Cooperative Minister of Maharashtra State.

He has received many honors and awards from various institutions, universities as well as government. He was also the member of Maharashtra legislative assembly. Currently, he is the vice president of Samajwadi Prabodhini (Academy for Socialists), Ichalkaranji. He is the president of ‘Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Academy’, Satara, ‘Maharashtra Superstition Eradication Committee’ and ‘South Maharashtra Education Broadcasting Institute Belgaum’. He is also a General Secretary of Mahatma Phule Shikshan Sanstha, Islampur. He has also published several books.
