About the Department of Geography

The Department of Geography was established in June 1992. It has one full-time teacher as it is taught only to First and Second year classes of B.A. It started functioning with few students but later on the strength of students increased. It progressed rapidly with increase in number of students. At present, the department of Geography has 134 students for B.A. I and 48 students for B.A. II.

Highlights/ Features of the Department:

The faculty of the department has an experience of 18 years. He has completed a UGC sanctioned Minor Research Project (M.R.P.) entitled ‘Potential of Fish Production in Satara District: a Case Study of Khandala Tehsil’ in 2015. In terms of resources and infra-structure too, the department has enough equipments such as GPS at its disposal. The department has a good collection of PPTs. Also it provides a forum to the students for co-curricular activities such as orals, tutorials, group discussions etc. 
 
Highlights/ Features of the Department:

-	The department has One COC “A Certificate Course in Guide Ship in Biodiversity and Adventure Tourism”

-	The department has a collection of rocks and Soils samples which are used as teaching aids.

-	Use of innovative teaching methods such as Jerk Technique, Reinforcement Technique, Quiz as teaching method etc.

-	Departmental library.

-	The Geography provides a forum to the students for extra and co-curricular activities such as Land Observation Visits, Seminars, Group discussions, etc.

•	To get knowledge of the human and physical geography 
•	To understand the physical setup and highlight economic scenario of the country 
•	To study the core part of the subject at a local, national and global level 
•	To develop the skill of map work and map interpretation among students 
•	To provide training in application of modern tools and techniques in geography
