About the Department

Late Padma Bhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, a great visionary, established Rayat Shikshan Sanstha in 1919 with a motto: ‘Education through self-help’. Its prime objective has been to provide educational opportunities to the downtrodden masses. It is one of the largest educational institutes in Asia. Prof. Dr. N. D. Patil Mahavidyalaya, Malkapur-Perid is one of the branches of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara. Malkapur is a village-cum–town that belongs to Shahuwadi Tehsil and the region is quite hilly and secluded. Considering the necessity of the locale, Sanstha founded the college in June 1992. With the commencement of the college, the Department of English began to function smoothly in the same year.
   
As the area is geographically and economically backward, the students belong to poor and middle class of society. Resultantly, the students find English as a difficult language to learn. However, our department has relentlessly been striving to improve communication skills of our students and imparting them required knowledge of English language and literature through introducing new teaching learning methodologies. Some of the former students are lecturers, secondary school teachers and primary teachers. Also there are few students who are in the field of journalism as editors of renowned news papers and the tutors in the private coaching classes. The previous three eminent Principals, Prin. Dr. M.A. Shaikh, Prin. Anuse B.R. and Prin. Dr. Ajit Magdum belong to English Department and have given precious contribution in the development of the department.

•	Highlights of the Department:

-	The students of our department participate in Avishkar Competition and present research papers at National seminars and conference.

-	The department conducts Spoken English Course. Moreover, it also runs Tata Consultancy Services’ Campus to Corporate Training Course, Symbiosis Skills Development and Open University’s two month’s Personality Development Course and Infosys’ Training Programme. These above courses groom our students in terms of standard corporate behavior and soft skills.

-	The department holds the best practice entitled Experiential Learning and Screening of the Movies based on Prescribed Literary Texts.

-	Faculties of the department make maximum use of ICT in teaching-learning process.
 
-	The department organizes different workshops and lectures of eminent persons for the students.

-	Seminars, Group Projects Tests, Tutorials and Home Assignments are also conducted to the students.
