The department of Chemistry was established in 1995. It is the only science department in the college. The Chemistry department is dedicated to provide a comprehensive, relevant curriculum at undergraduate level. It works with the mission to inculcate the knowledge and skills in the field of Chemistry, to motivate the students to go for higher studies, to empower students for employment and self employment in the field of Chemistry. The built up area of the department is 1824 sq.ft. The laboratory is enriched with sophisticated instruments necessary for regular practicals and research activities. The course structure is as per Shivaji University, Kolhapur which includes theory and practicals. The department has made Linkage with Shri Shiv-Shahu Mahavidyalaya, Sarud to organize activities such as student exchange, faculty exchange etc.

It has well qualified two full time faculties (out of three full time sanctioned posts) and three faculties working on clock hour basis. It has three technical staff, one laboratory assistant and two laboratory attendants. The average number of students every year is 250 who are admitted to B.Sc.I/II/III. The department has three spacious laboratories (including one research laboratory), one staff room and one preparation room. Student centric activities such as wallpaper presentation on various themes like Chemistry in daily life, Chemistry of elements, Nobel laureates in Chemistry etc. are organized by the department to cater presentation practices among students. To promote creative writing in students department organizes Writopia-Essay writing competition. The Department of Chemistry organizes “Daily activity-on this day in Chemistry”. In this activity, the information related to the importance of a particular day in connection with the field of Chemistry is notified by our students on departmental notice board.

Study tours are organized to get information of industrial processes and sophisticated laboratory equipments to the last year students. As per curriculum of Shivaji University, Kolhapur compulsory research projects are carried out by the last year students. Students seminar activity is conducted by the department to increase their stage daring and to nourish presentation skills. To reduce the use of hazardous chemicals in Shahuwadi tehsil, extension activity entitled “Survey” is conducted by the department. The department has very good result outcomes. On an average, results of the final year students are above 90% every year. In the academic year 2016-17, the result of the last year students was outstanding. Out of 50 students, 49 students obtained first class with distinction. The department has prominent alumni working in various fields such as pharmaceutical companies, teaching profession, marketing field, military and government services. The department has played a leading role in organization of ‘One Day National Conference on Role of Science in Conservation of Environment and Biodiversity’ organized by Faculty of Science and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 17th March 2018.
