About the Department of History

The department of History was established in 1992.It is dedicated to provide a comprehensive, relevant curriculum at undergraduate level.It works with the mission to inculcate the knowledge and skills in the field of History, to motivate the students to go for higher studies, to empower students for employment and self-employment in the field of History. The course structure is as per Shivaji University, Kolhapur which includes theory and termworks. The department has made an MoU with Raja Shivachhatrapati Parivar, Kolhapur, to organize activities such as guest lectures, fort cleanliness programmes etc.

The department is fulfilled with well qualified faculties. It has one full time faculty (out of two full time sanctioned posts) and one faculty working on clock hour basis. The average number of students each year in B.A.I/II/III is above 100. The department is well furnished with good facilities. Student centric activities such as Wallpaper presentation on various themes like our History, National Heroes and historical figures, Forts conservation etc. are organized to fulfildiverse academic needs of our students. To increase awareness about our national symbols and historical monuments, the guest lectures areorganizedon special themes such as Fort Conservation, Importance of Coin.

Moreover, the department also organizes study tours to historically significant places in Maharashtraand local area to the last year students. As per curriculum of Shivaji University, Kolhapur compulsory research projects are carried out by the last year students. Students seminar activity is also conducted to increase their stage daring and to nourish presentation skills. The department has very good result outcomes.
